LSA North is the exclusive distributor of the Flight Design CTsw and CTLS for MN, WI, SD, ND and Northern IL. We want to be your first choice for flight training and aircraft ownership. Call us to rent, purchase, or to take a Discovery flight in your own personal Light Sport Aircraft today. There are nearly 100 different Light Sport Aircraft models in the US market today. Some of these are quite technologically advanced aircraft (TAA) whiles others are very simple and have just the basic required flight controls. Which is the better airplane is best defined by the mission for which you will use it, local or cross country flying, speed and comfort, or simple and functional. We have chosen the Flight Design CT (FDCT) because we believe it has an excellent design and quality support system from the manufacturer and importer. It is a fun, economical, and safe airplane to fly. These aircraft are just as capable as many traditional trainers in the past. For a Flight School, the biggest difference is that the LSA regulations limit these airplanes to two seats. Until you earn your official Private Pilot license, any additional seats would be a waste of money because you are not allowed to carry passengers. Beyond that, our FDCT LSA are just as fast, if not faster, go just as far, if not farther, are wider and more comfortable, and in our opinion much more fun to fly than any traditional flight training airplane. We have safety features that are not found in many aircraft; rigid carbon fiber design, 3 axis auto pilot, and our whole plane BRS parachute and other safety devices. So you want to be a Pilot. Before you can begin flight training the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that we complete a few paperwork tasks. On our website www.lsanorth.com we have all of these requirements noted on the Flight Planning Tools page. As a pilot, student or licensed, it is up to you to always stay in compliance with the rules and regulations. We will assist you, but the final responsibility to comply with the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) is yours. At LSA North, Stick-n-Rudder Flight Training™, we have created a Policies & Procedures document that will guide us in creating a safe and productive training environment for you. This document will be updated periodically and posted to our web site. You are expected to stay current with it. We strive to provide a safe and efficient training environment. How quickly you progress will be based upon many factors beyond our control (bad weather, illnesses, mechanical issues, etc.). What you can control and will have the greatest impact on your training is how prepared you are when you show up for your flight lesson, and how often you fly each week. The more often you fly each week, the less overall time and money it will take to complete your course than if you stretch it out over many months. What will it cost to learn to fly? No flight school can guarantee you a price or time line. There are too many factors beyond our control. You can be a pilot in just 30 days if you work hard and everything else falls into place! The following is a rough outline of what you can expect: Your first Pilot license ~ Sport Pilot
Total: $ 4,500 minimum ~ average $ 6,500+ Read about some of our recent students' accomplishments on our Press Release pages. Our instructors are mature, highly educated, dedicated, professional pilots. We believe you will learn and understand the material quicker with a personal flight instructor to guide you, than by using a home study DVD course and flying elsewhere. Ultimately, you will finish your goal quicker and pay less with our guidance. You could easily pay double, or more, elsewhere. The Private Pilot License Once you have become a licensed pilot, your learning has only just begun. A good pilot is always learning and expanding his skills. If you want to fly higher than 10,000’ MSL, faster than 120 knots, or carry more than 1 passenger you may upgrade to a Private Pilot license in just 3~5 days in our transition program.
Total: $ 2,300 (estimate) By using our step up program to obtain your Private Pilot license we believe you will pay less money in the long-run, and become a better, safer, pilot than going through a traditional Private Pilot first flight school. High Performance Aircraft Endorsement Once you become a licensed Private Pilot you will want to increase your knowledge and skills by earning your high performance aircraft endorsement. This will enable you to fly more powerful aircraft with 200 horsepower or greater, and a constant speed (adjustable) propeller (i.e. a Cessna 182 or a Cirrus SR22, G3 etc.).
Total: $ 700 (estimate) Complex Aircraft Endorsement Another “next achievement” is to learn how to fly a complex aircraft. This means an airplane with retractable landing gear. This can usually be accomplished in less than three hours of flight and ground training. We do not currently offer this training, but can refer you to a flight school that does. Both of the above endorsements are required if you should go on to test for your Commercial Pilot license.
Total: $ 400 (estimate) Instrument Rating Pilots who fly long distances for their business, or pleasure, will someday wish they had their instrument rating so that they can file an IFR flight plan to escape some marginal flight conditions rather than have to sit and wait the weather out. Note, we said marginal conditions. An IFR rating for a Private Pilot is not a license to fly in any kind of weather. Leave that to the professionals at the airlines who have the training and equipment to do so. An instrument rating will also give you the skills to save your life if someday you find yourself unexpectedly in the clouds or in the sky on a moonless night, and suddenly flying on instruments and training only.
Required long country flights etc. Aircraft rental (20 hours+) $ 2,500
Total (estimate): $ 5,200 Commercial Pilot Certificate In order to fly an airplane for hire, the Pilot must have a commercial pilot certificate. The training for this is more of a back to the basics type of flying and an expectation of professionalism from the pilot in all of his aviation activities and flight maneuvers. A pilot who has worked his way through our step up programs should have no trouble with this add on to his list of pilot licenses. It will require a few hours of polish up flight training, ground mentoring, and a review of all required flight maneuvers, and a practical exam (check-ride). Basic Ground Instructor Advanced Ground Instructor Instrument Ground Instructor Pilots who make learning a lifetime commitment will aspire to become a flight instructor. It is the most humbling and intensive pilot training you will undertake. It requires that you have instructional knowledge of a topic, and not just basic pilot proficiency. The first instructor rating is that of a ground instructor. There are three ground instructor levels, achieved by passing FAA Knowledge Tests (written exams aka computer based testing CBT). Certificated Flight Instructor The first thing a new flight instructor learns when he gains his first student is how unprepared and little he knows. When that first student solos, and then earns his license, the personal satisfaction exceeds that of when you first soloed. The FAA has a limited CFI-Sport Pilot instructor rating available for Private Pilots with 150+ Pilot In Command (PIC) hours. It is our belief that the lesser training and experience requirements of the CFI-SP do not serve the students nor fulfill our obligations as flight instructors to be the best that we can, and that this rating should be abolished. We strongly suggest that you earn your Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilot certificate first, and then apply for the full Certificated Flight Instructor – airman certificate. The additional 100 hours of training and experience will be immeasurable. Your future student pilots deserve your best, not half best. A good CFI training program is lengthy, usually two full (8 hours a day) weeks if on an accelerated plan, and several months on a traditional self-paced plan. The oral examination for the practical test is 4~8 hours, followed by the flight test. It is hard to put a number on the hours of instruction required, but 20 hours of ground is a good estimate to plan expenses, plus flight training as needed.
